The renovation was sympathetic to the history of the home

A celebration of colour

A recent project by the talented Jessica Close Interiors featuring a plethora of Aalto colour was published in the reknowned international publication World of Interiors.

An old sea captains’ abode in Lyttleton was purchased by artist Nichola Shanley, and subsequently destroyed by the 2011 Christchurch earthquake.

Jessica was enlisted to both unify the spaces with colour, and create distinct personalities within the rooms. The result is a celebration of colour, and a renovation which is both sympathetic to the history of the home, yet unique and personal.

‘In this collaboration, we’re not just rebuilding structures; we’re restoring the very essence of our shared history,’ says Nichola as she reflects on the technical and artistic efforts that have gone into the revival of her Lyttelton haven. The result, indeed, celebrates its fraught past rather than paving it over, and stands as a beautiful testament to the combination of expertise and creativity etched within its carefully restored walls.
