This year, Aalto has teamed up with The New, an online magazine that showcases the very best in design from around New Zealand. Together we're bringing you a series of styled editorial shoots and interior moods inspired by Aalto's range of colours.
For this mood, I’m daydreaming about a living room makeover with high summer vibes, where the hero is one of Aalto Paint’s powdery blush tones. I’d start with Aalto Fledgling, a pared-back barely pink. If you’ve been looking for a contemporary alternative to traditional neutral walls, this is your babe. Other options would be Ballet Shoes (a little deeper than Fledgling, it reads as a modern beige), the pink clay gorgeousness that is Treaty 1/2, or for a bolder choice that also ramps up the sophistication factor, Aalto Sovereign – from their special 2018 palette.
Pink walls love being paired with creamy neutrals – whites, sandy taupes – and doing this also instantly ‘grounds’ a pink, making it more liveable and less trendy.
To soften the look even further, I’d use lots of pale timber and organic textures including linen, woven textiles and ceramics. Then, to this very laidback #softminimal style, I’d add a little blue, and some stripes – these elements brighten and freshen the look, and give the summer feel I want. The finishing touch would be a couple of blush pieces, as a nod to my wall colour.
